Social network

Mastodon offers an alternative to conventional social networks. The unique feature of the platform are the decentralized instances that users can join on their own. The AcademicCloud instance enables entry into the use of Mastodon and opens up a place for academic exchange through short messages and the ability to follow other individuals. Mastodon thus represents a diverse and community-oriented platform.

Decentralized social media with a focus on data privacy

Mastodon is a privacy-compliant open-source alternative to social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), which allows users to publish short messages, follow people and communicate in thematic instances.

Mastodon promotes the privacy of users by allowing the visibility of posts to be adjusted and restricted to certain groups. The use of the service is in accordance with the terms of use and server rules of the GWDG instance, if it is joined.

The personal home feed displays the latest posts from all followed users, regardless of their instance. Mastodon is thus ideal for diverse discussions and current exchanges. The AcademicCloud instance in particular offers a platform for networking and interdisciplinary exchange on academic topics related to science, research and teaching in Lower Saxony.
