PID service

ePIC is a service to create and edit persistent identifiers (PID), which can be connected to digital objects with a valid URL (e.g. research data and documents), so that they can be permanently referenced on the Internet. A PID link can be provided with metadata, modified and resolved. This service is part of the Persistent Identifier Consortium for eResearch.

Ensure access to data

Digital objects like research data, texts and images that are accessed by a valid URL can be made referenceable in ePIC by linking them to a persistent identifier. While the PID stays valid and is published, the linked URL can be modified if necessary. This allows a secure exchange of data between researchers and long-term traceable citations.

The created PIDs can be stored, managed and viewed. Institutional prefixes added to the metadata allow the backtracking to a specific institution.

PIDs created in ePIC can be resolved directly in the integrated resolver or by other services and thus viewed.
